NFL

NFL or also called national football league. Football is also becoming increasingly popular in Germany.

Most of you probably know how this league came into being, but for the newcomers we will take a closer look at the NFL phenomenon. Even the connoisseurs among you will learn something that you may not have heard before.

The NFL is made up of 32 teams organized into the NFC (National Football Conference) and the AFC (American Football Conference). The respective winners of these two conferences playing for the famous Super Bowl.

There are four divisions in the NFC, each with four teams. The same can also be found in the AFC. The respective four group winners and the best three runners-up teams then move into the playoffs. Here, the teams start with the wildcard weekend first. After they play in KO mode up to the Super Bowl.

The league was established in 1920. Record champion are the Green Bay Packers with 13 championships. The previous head coach of the Packers, Vince Lombardi, is also the namesake of the Vince Lombardi Trophy, as the Super Bowl is also known.

The 32 teams stretch from south to north and east to west of the United States of America. So for example, a fan of Seattle Seahawks has to cover a distance of 3,302 miles to come to the away game against Miami Dolphins.

However, the fans are crazy about this league. An average of 68400 viewers were going into the stadiums last year. Thus, NFL has by far the best average attendance of all leagues and sports. The Dallas Cowboys, also known as the American Team, were the leaders in this statistic with an average of 92,500 spectators per game. I would also like to mention here that the Cowboys are the most valuable sports club in the world.

The league’s top earner isn’t Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers, Matthew Stafford of the Detroit Lions is at the top here. Recently he signed his 5-year contract with a value of 135 million dollar.

The commercial prizes during the Super Bowl also show how important the biggest companies in the world take the NFL. There you can quickly lay down 5 million for a 30 second spot.

Forget Olympia, Wimbledon or Champions League. The biggest annual sporting event is the Super Bowl. The venue is changing year after year and 115 million US Americans watching the game in TV. By now Super Bowl Partys in Europe existing as well.

For the players it’s a long way to the Super Bowl. They have to struggle through a four-week pre-season and they need a place in the roster of the respective team. After, they start the regular season. At the end it’s the playoffs against the best of the best.

One reason why this sport isn’t so fame in Germany could be the fact, that the games start quite late and often in the middle of the night. But that has bothered fewer and fewer people in recent years.

We at NFL Tippster want to contribute, that more and more people fall in love with this sport.
