For a long time, the Detroit Lions were laughed at not only in the NFC North but in the entire NFL. For almost decades, this franchise eked out a quiet existence. Those days now seem to be over. The Lions are in first place in the NFC North with a record of 3-1 wins and are also relatively ahead in our nfltippster power ranking.

After last weekend’s clear win at the Packers, you simply have to have them on your mind now. First place in this division and thus at least a home game in the playoffs leads through Detroit.

The team is averaging 26.5 points which is a remarkable statistic. Jared Goff has already thrown for over 1000 yards, David Montgomery has come up trumps. Then there’s a certain Amon-Ra St. Brown. Nobody except the Lions is laughing about the ridiculed draft anymore.

On the other side we have the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers almost went all in in this year’s draft but so far it hasn’t paid off. Granted, it’s always hard for a rookie to find his feet at first, but Bryce Young is rated at 75 with 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions so far. Would Stroud have been the better choice after all? All ifs and buts will unfortunately not help us.

Some experts already saw the Panthers as favorites to win the NFC South title. Four weeks later, they are in last place with a 0-4 record. Most recently, they suffered a 21-13 loss to the Vikings. It’s not going to get any easier this game day.

Unfortunately, we don’t see much that speaks for the Panthers in the match Carolina Panthers @ Detroit Lions. Detroit is better staffed in all parts of the team, and the number one pick Young is doing more bad than good so far. Maybe Carolina will be able to slow down the Lions’ offense, but in the end there can only be one winner and that is the Detroit Lions.
