Tip Las Vegas Raiders @ Detroit Lions
Our last tip for this week is the MNF match between the Las Vegas Raiders @ Detroit Lions. The signs are clearly blowing in the direction of the Lions, but will the Raiders just surrender without a fight or will they pull off a little surprise? Find out in our article: Tip Las Vegas Raiders @ Detroit Lions.
I honestly have no real idea what the Raiders strategy is supposed to be. They let Derek Carr go in the summer to replace him with Jimmy Garoppolo. Does Jimmy G really represent an upgrade? He has fit in very well in the 49ers system when fit, but there is a whole system weighing on the veteran here. He’s playing a very mixed season so far with 1079 passing yards and 7 touchdowns to 8 interceptions. Superstar Davante Adams in particular has expressed several times that he actually came to Vegas to win titles. Since the defense, apart from Maxx Crosby, is only average, it is almost inconceivable that you will see the Raiders in their home Super Bowl.
Garoppolo was out last week, but he should be available again against the Lions, because if he doesn’t play like he did in last week’s 12-30 loss to the Bears, the already average Raiders will be just that much weaker.
Opponents on Monday Night Football are the Lions, who currently lead the NFC North with a record of 5-2 wins. They’ve had impressive wins this season against the Chiefs and the Packers, but last weekend’s 6-38 thrashing of the Ravens was a big blow. You can certainly see that they have improved again compared to last season, but Rome wasn’t built in a day either. They were often ridiculed in the draft but both Gibbs and Campbell or Sam LaPorta have fit in nicely. Even their top pick last year Aidan Hutchinson has taken another step forward.
The Lions have some injuries to deal with, but the now famous coach Dan Campbell is not looking for any excuses. It will be important to see on this matchday whether they are already solid enough to put a defeat like last week behind them or whether it has left its mark.
The Raiders have yet to beat a team with a positive record so far this season and we don’t expect that to be the case with MNF Football right now. The Lions will go into this game with a decent amount of anger in their belly after the loss to the Ravens and will certainly want to show that last game was just a blip. Hutchinson will make life as difficult as possible for Jimmy G and therefore force him to make mistakes. Our tip Las Vegas Raiders @ Detroit Lions therefore goes with the home team from Detroit.
